Clubhouse is hot. If you haven’t heard about it yet, seriously time to get with a millennial or subscribe to Ad Age – either one. Ok so what the heck is it and what do we do with it?
Clubhouse is an audio-based media app. It is audio only, think of it as a 24/7 podcast stream covering every topic possible. Seriously in my poking around I’ve seen clubs for everything from how to find a sugardaddy to efficient marketing and the importance of your branding. The full gamut people.
But as we’ve all learned by now, the best time for a platform is in its infancy. That’s when you have the most virality potential – remember Instagram and all those influencers who now have millions of followers, yeah because they’ve been on it for 10 years. TikTok, remember the Hype House? People who got on it first and then used it correctly. I feel like I need to clarify here that being first is not the only thing you have to do, you must also show up in meaningful ways but like it doesn’t hurt to be first.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
It’s currently invite only. But I’ve seen lots of invites floating around Facebook groups, so if you haven’t gotten one yet (DM us to see if we have a spare) and check your groups.
HOW TO USE IT
Join or host a room on the topic that resonates with you and listen to leaders (entrepreneurs and celebs alike) provide advice, share personal testimony and deep dive into whatever the topic. PRO TIP: Host your own room, position yourself as an expert and work that room girl. Charcuterie company? Host a talk on meat & cheese pairings. Influencer? Get in there and talk about how to style crop tops. Share your expertise.
WHAT WE THINK
You didn’t ask you may not care in which case abandon ship. Or if you’re just curious.. here’s what we think of Clubhouse. It’s great for discovery and collaboration, full of ideal clients, a destination to reinforce your expertise and share on the topic.
THE NOT SO GOOD
Influencers and celebs dominate the space. Like all spaces, so like ok… Like we said, we found a how to find a sugar daddy room without trying. So there’s really no way to moderate content and tbh we’ve (clearly) had difficulty finding rooms we’re interested in. An audio only platform is not accessible – we’ve been reminded throughout this pandemic especially of the difficulties for the hard of hearing and Clubhouse is only exacerbating those.
Without moderation, Clubhouse exists just like the world – without a filter. So there’s lots of ugly and hatred being spread. Take that as you may. We’d just like to see a better search function so we can find the stuff we want and avoid the stuff we don’t want.
Are you on Clubhouse yet? What do you think? How are you using it? Let us know, we’d love to know.
